Business Initiatives

In recent years, Indiana has lost an estimated 160,000 jobs, primarily in traditional manufacturing. There is a pressing need in Indiana to provide economic leadership and develop new strategies to assist businesses, organizations, and workers in trasitioning to the realities of the new economy.

The School of Business has developed three initiatives to assist Indiana businesses, organizations, and workers in adapting to changes in the Indiana economy. They are the Center for Business Partnerships (CBP), the Organizational Effectiveness Institute (OEI), and the Business Development Group (BDG).

Center for Business Partnerships

The CBP was designed to form partnerships between The University of Indianapolis School of Business and community organizations and businesses. CBP is an outreach program designed to identify and develop opportunities for faculty to be of direct assistance to local businesses and community organizations. A goal of the CBP is to involve students in real world projects so that classroom concepts can be reinforced and experience can be gained.

Organizational Effectiveness Institute

The purpose of the OEI is to promote applied and theoretical thinking and communications across disciplines. It is open to everyone interested in the topic. Organizational effectiveness (OE) is a measurable process of optimizing organizational performance through planned change. It is cross-disciplinary, and both theoretical and applied in nature.

Business Development Group

The BDG provides necessary resources to help launch, grow, and improve the effectiveness of area businesses and organizations. The BDG combines the resources of the University's School of Business and leading area consultants to offer powerful, temporary extensions to limited staffs through expert consulting and training.

Institute for Emerging Careers

The University of Indianapolis is taking an active and leading role in addressing the “brain drain” issue of college graduates leaving the state. The Institute for Emerging Careers tracks the ever-changing needs of the Indiana economy to help prepare students for work in expanding and emerging fields. The program incorporates applied research, initiatives, and business and community partnerships to improve job-placement services and create additional opportunities for graduates so that they can remain in-state to meet Indiana’s workforce needs.

Key functions:

  • Identify future Indiana industries and determine the careers needed to support them
  • Develop strategies to attract and educate students and place graduates in Indiana industries
  • Use emerging-career internships to guide curriculum development and enhance student skill attainment
  • Measure success and continually refresh the forecast and strategies
